Day 12.
Tuesday 13th July.
Restless night worrying about my bike but
she was still there in the morning. Nice cup of coffee and
a long chat with the hostel supervisor. She said crime was low
in Finland but alcohol and drugs were becoming a problem with
the younger people. Headed to Helsinki, some 100Km south
stopping for fuel and food along the way. Still a fast
road with a 120KPH speed limit. More or less got to the
hotel I had picked out near to the Ferries. Hotel Skatta
at £50 a night, just about within my budget but in a good
location. Contacted a hotel in Tallinn and booked it for a
few days, then went out and booked the ferry to Tallinn.
Nordic Jetline, 30Euro for myself and the bike. I
continued to the open market on the quayside and as I waited for
the ferry to take me to Suomenlinna Seafortress I had a pleasant
meal of fresh cooked salmon, mini potatoes and salad plus a cool
coke. Then off to the island for several hours of
exploration. Some amazing fortifications there and a
beached submarine to visit. Back to dry land and into the
city proper. Plenty of historic buildings and also modern
ones mixed with parks, shopping centres and squares. Back
to the hotel about 7pm for a well earned shower and rest.
Back into town tomorrow again.
