Day
17. Sunday 18th July. All day in St Petersburg.
Up at 9am shower and breakfast, ready for a
busy day around the big city. It was only as I had a
pleasant conversation with an American couple, over breakfast
that I realised I hadn't put my watch forward one hour to
Russian time, which meant that as I ate my breakfast the tour I
was hoping to join had already left. Being used to
adapting to my circumstances all through my trip I soon
organised a walking tour of my own. Thus started my 6 hour walk
around St Petersburg. I first called at The International
Hostel at 3rd Sovetskaya, 28 not far from my hotel. Here
the nice young ladies just managed to get me a place on a bus
for Tallinn the next day. I promptly bought the ticket and
went on my tour of the city. I hope the pictures will tell
you something of my travels. I certainly didn't see all of
the beautiful sights of this fascinating city but I did get
around quite a few. The Winter Palace was particularly
good and I could have stayed there longer. When I found
myself back on Nevsky Prospect I was quite relieved and after
what seemed for ever I got to my hotel and a nice shower and
rest. After a couple of hours it was back out again and
something to eat with a view of the night life in this trendy
city. I say trendy as everyone seems to sport the latest
designer gear. The clothes all seemed to be from the best
brand names. I certainly stood out a mile. Enough
for one day so back to hotel and bed.
